FMP : day 25
lot of complicated work has been done today. I have been down in the print room discussing how i would make the board for my final outcome. I have created a mockup of a smaller one that looks good. Although has it's faults. I was hopefully trying to get down the final outcome today but there was a problem with the printing and it was printed out at the wrong size.

FMP : day 24
Todays focus has been trying to design my character tokens. This job took up a lot of time as i had to keep experimenting with how i would get the actual tokens to stand up when on the board.
The actual design of the tokens comes from a game that specifically involves characters that have different colours. This is perfect for me because it means that it is a simple recolour job that i have to do to each of the 6 tokens. That was relativley easy to do and didn't take up too much of my time.
After designing it i tried to cut them out in a way where they could slot into each other easily. But when you look at the actual result it doesn't look how you would want it to. Sometimes the characters won't match up and it just didn't work.

FMP : day 23
Today i tried to make a final mockup of my final board. It was harder than i thought it would be to make. I tried 3 times and each time i had come up with a different way to do it. Each had it's own problems. I will try this again tomorrow when a certain tutor is in who knows all about this kind of stuff.
Other than that i began to design some player tokens for my board game. They will be made in the same style that i have drawn everything else.

FMP : day 22
Today has been probably the most tedious of work days. It has been spent refining the smallest of details to do with my property cards making sure they are aligned properly and easy to look at.
I have printed out all of my chance and community chest cards and made mock ups of what they will look like. I have received feedback about them and know what to do to improve them after this.

today has been a bit of a pain. I have been making the property cards to go along with the board. I have been writing up how much each individual space will cost and the cost of each house.

Today i have primarily focused on the chance and community chest cards. It was harder than i thought thinking of pre existing cards and adding a game variant to them. But hopefully they should all be finished now and ready to be printed off.

Today i have been working more on the board design. I have nearly completed it with added logo. I think it looks really good so far but all i got to do to it now is to add the place names and create the cards that follow each space.

FMP : day 18
Due to the lack of being able to go on my Mac i have been unable to do the things that i wanted to do so instead i have began working on a more refined logo that is more of my own design. As the logo i made before i took a lot of the design from a pre existing Monopoly logo. The logo that i have designed is much more sophisticated than the last one.

Today i got in late again due to the job center so i had to make do with another half days worth of work. But so far i managed to do quite a lot on the design of my logo. I drew it up on illustrator from a drawing i made already and experimented on photoshop with the brush tool to make the illustration pop out at you.

FMP : day 16
Today was spent designing my webpage as well as going to English so i haven't really done much in terms of my FMP. Mainly i have just designed some select areas that will be different than the other spaces on the board. It is coming on much nicer now but preferably i would have liked to have done some more work on it today.

FMP : day 15
Today has been a very design orientated day. After consulting with my tutor Rob we came to the conclusion that the main board design looked a little bit off. There were parts that just didn't look right and so today i have refined it and created what i think should now be the last time i will redesign it.


Using my template i have laid down some of the board spaces including the chance and community chest cards. So far it works really well and is coming along.
i created several designs for more chance cards. I have changed the colours of the cards and had feedback from the people in my class as to what design looks the best or at least what i should include next time. I now have a basic concept of what things to incorporate into making the cards.
later in the day i discovered that i had missed out a vital part of the game which is the waterworks and electric company. After reading the rules and thinking about how the game might get a bit difficult i have come up with a good solution to both problems and that is to make the waterworks and electric company into power pellet spaces which will allow you to kill a ghost if they land on you. It will become a collectable that should balance the game out.

Today i had the dentist and English so i have missed a huge portion of today. But so far i managed to start my design for what the community chest cards will look like.

FMP : day 13
the first half of today was spent researching into our upcoming trip to the pick me up in London. After that i spent the rest of the day redesigning my board. Not entirely redesigned but i changed the layout of the board to incorporate a 9 sided board rather than a 10. This job was much easier this time around.
Other than that i started to design what the chance cards are going to look like for my game. I have created a nice emerald design and added type. I haven't decided whether to call them chance cards or emerald cards but i will have to think about it.

FMP : day 11
Today i experimented with cutting out paper for my monopoly type. It looks okay but i don't think i will consider it for the final design of my board.
I have written down a page that has all the chance cards in it as well as all the community chest cards you fins in the normal monopoly board game. The aim is to after i have finished creating the board design i will be able to change the cards to be more suitable for the new game rules and theme.
I have began designing the actual board so far but haven't gotten far due to running out of time. I will continue with this tomorrow.

FMP : day 10
Today i experimented with different mediums that i could use to make my logos. This was somewhat hard to do because to reflect video games. There isn't really any specific styles i can use that would work. After doing a little research i came across some games that have specific styles that i could use to experiment with. The games that i found were mainly Nintendo games which usually have a very child friendly and cartoon look to them. This allowed for things like crayons which i am not particularly good with. Same with water colours. Although saying that i think my crayon logo came out quite nicely.
I have also looked at a game called limbo which has a much darker art style to it. The game is in black and white and has a spooky atmosphere to it. This means that charcoal is a good choice to use because you can smudge it and create a look of chaos.

Today i have spent the day designing different logos that i could use. I have been toying with the idea of my mega man monopoly logo that i created at the start but i decided to try my hand at making different designs. I have created a few that i think would all be good to use, and if not for my logo perhaps i could use it somehow.

Today i made progress with my character characteristics. I have analyzed each game character and generalized the character into several single concepts that can define each character. For example Sonic the hedgehog can be defined by a ring. Because that is what you collect in game.

FMP : day 6
Today i spent the first 2 lessons researching the different era's of video games. I started at the first generation which is where gaming started in the 70's. After that i worked my way up the generations until current times. So as of right now i have a very good understanding of how gaming has developed as well as the important games that helped mold the way for future gaming.
The second part of the day was spent creating mind maps about different characters from different video games. So far i have done several Nintendo characters and next time i will either continue doing Nintendo characters or move on to Sega and then possibly Sony.

FMP : day 4
Today i have researched into the process you would use to make up a board game. I have brainstormed ideas of what i would like to have on the board itself and have created 2 mood boards which have the processes on them of making the board games.
I have collected a wide number of video game facts which i will use to help me decide what type of video game style board game i will be doing. So far i am thinking that the board will be like a trip down memory lane where the first two squares will have to do with gaming in the 70's and then go up until recent times.

FMP : day 3
Today i have researched into the history of monopoly as well as information about the company Hasbro. It's origins as well as how it went from being the "Hassenfield Brothers" to Hasbro which it is now known.
I have made a mood board about all the different types of monopoly board games there are and found out that there isn't a video game monopoly that i know of.

FMP : day 2
Today i spent the first part of the day mind mapping my ideas. I decided to add more than what i already decided i would be doing. So that if i get to a point where i don't want to continue i will still have some other ideas to fall back on.
After break i started to research into how to make board games and how they are made on an industrial size. So far i have concluded that my final idea would actually be quite doable. This is something i am already looking forward to.

Rockwell.
This is one of my final outcomes for my typography project. I really like this poster due to me taking a lot of time with it. It is eye catching and follows along a grid well. The font that i used i haven't actually used before and has become one of my more favourite typefaces now.
FMP - beginning
So far i have been brainstorming ideas what i would like to make for my final outcome.
I was a bit hesitant about it because i have already done a whole unit on gaming but it is a subject that i have a lot of interest in so i decided that i will be doing that anyway.
To do my idea i need to make sure that there is enough information available about it. If not then i will be getting halfway through the project before it suddenly becoming extremely difficult to continue.
My idea is to create my own variety of the popular board game monopoly. The variety will be game related and the board will revolve around the concept of rather than houses you are buying stock in gaming companies or just games. Due to the nature of monopoly i need to make sure that there is enough information regarding what i could use for the chance cards.
